November 23, 2009

MACOMB, IL – - On the 40th anniversary of the first landing on the moon, Western Illinois University’s physics and chemistry departments will explore the wonders of space in a down-to-earth presentation.

The demonstration show, titled “The S.P.A.C.E. Show: Space Physics and Chemistry Extravaganza,” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3 in Currens Hall 205.

The show will present science demonstrations such as the science of gravity, vacuums, rockets, combustion, light, color and deep cold through fun demonstrations and material from Disney’s animated movie Wall-E.

“Space travel truly is the final, exciting frontier of human exploration. We will endeavor to bring the amazing things you might encounter in space ‘down to earth,’” Associate Professor of Physics Jim Rabchuk said.
