WIU First Tee Begins June 14

May 28, 2010

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University’s First Tee program, which not only teaches golf skills, but life skills as well, to youth ages seven through 17, will begin June 14 and run through July 22.

Classes will be held from 9-11 a.m. every Monday and Thursday at Western’s Harry Mussatto Golf Course.

The First Tee was created in 1997 to introduce young people of all backgrounds to the game of golf and the lessons it teaches. According to Lia Biehl Lukkarinen, WIU women’s golf coach and First Tee program director, the life skills curriculum sets the program apart from other junior golf programs and ultimately strives to instill First Tee’s core values of honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, courtesy, judgment, confidence, responsibility and perseverance.

The cost of the six-week program is $40 per student (additional family members may participate for $20 and scholarships are available to those students who meet the criteria). Brochures are available at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course as well as online at www.golf.wiu.edu (click on the “Community” tab on the left sidebar). Registration deadline is June 11.
