MACOMB, IL – - No need to dress up for the community bash Saturday, Aug. 8; jeans will do just fine. And diamonds would be a nice accessory. In fact, some fortunate person will receive a round brilliant cut 1-carat diamond in a solitaire setting, with a retail value of $4,000, at the Performing Arts Society kickoff party, “Diamonds and Denim 2009,” from 6-10 p.m. at the Change of Pace, 301 N. Campbell Street, Macomb.
The annual Performing Arts Society (PAS) get-together is open to the public. A $10 admission covers entertainment by the Daddy O’s on the stage and M & S Sound on the Patio, as well as hors d’oeuvres.
“Everyone is invited; you don’t have to be a Performing Arts Society (PAS) member to attend,” said Mick Cumbie, WIU’S College of Fine Arts and Communication development director. “We expect a large turnout for the event and hope to welcome many non-PAS members to the party. Above all, we want people to come out and have a great time.”
Chances to win the diamond, provided by Sue Melton and the Diamond Den of Macomb, are $5 each, three chances for $10 and 10 chances for $20; there is no limit on the number of chances that can be purchased. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling Western’s College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) at (309) 298-1618.
Admission tickets are available in Macomb at several businesses including the Diamond Den, Citizens Bank, The Barbershop, Nelson’s Clothing and MidAmerica National Bank. Tickets may also be purchased through COFAC, Browne Hall 117, (309) 298-1618, or at the door.
The Performing Arts Society includes community and University volunteers who, as patrons of the arts, are dedicated to advancing arts programming at Western Illinois University. PAS raises funds through memberships and social fundraising functions to support arts programming, which includes the Youth Performing Arts Series (YPAS), WIU Summer Music Camp scholarships, arts programming grants to WIU faculty and staff, the Bureau of Cultural Affairs (BCA) and other arts-centered programming at WIU.
