MACOMB, IL — The annual telephone solicitation to fund Western Illinois University Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge No. 169 activities will begin Monday, Jan. 18. Donations collected will help the WIU FOP to sponsor the 12th annual Bike Rodeo/Safety Day in May, as well as to provide support for a host of organizations and events.
The 2009 bike rodeo was attended by nearly 70 area children. Door prizes included bicycle helmets, bicycles and several educational handouts. In addition, the WIU FOP assisted various McDonough County organizations including Special Olympics, Good Hope, Bushnell and Colchester Little Leagues, Bushnell Area Traveling Softball, McDonough County Girls Softball, PRIME, Samaritan Well, Concerns of Police survivors, Good Hope Park Fund; Western Illinois Regional Council Project Santa, Macomb Salvation Army, Macomb Kiwanis, Bushnell Support Group, St. Jude and Muscular Dystrophy Association; and awarded book scholarships for McDonough County high school graduates attending Western. In addition, the WIU and Macomb Police FOPs are continuing to renovate Camp Chic-A-Gama at Spring Lake to serve area youth activities and the WIU FOP sponsors a local Cub Scout pack.
“We greatly appreciate the generosity of all of our past contributors,” said Tom Moore, FOP No. 169 secretary/treasurer. “We know that people are often asked to pledge for many different organizations; we hope that the citizens of McDonough County will consider donating to our fund drive so we can continue to assist the many worthy organizations and young people in our region.”
