MACOMB, IL – - Western Illinois University English faculty members Erika T. Wurth and Magdelyn Hammond Helwig will read from their own works of fiction and poetry at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21 in Western’s Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room. The reading is open free to the public.
Wurth, an Apache, Chickasaw and Cherokee, teaches creative writing at Western. Her collection of poetry, “Indian Trains,” was published by the University of New Mexico’s West End Press in 2007, and her work has appeared in many publications. She also recently visited the Institute of American Indian Arts as a visiting writer.
Hammond Helwig teaches composition at WIU. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry from the University of Maryland, where she is also finishing her Ph.D. in 20th century poetry.
