“Plain Folk” Documentary Screening
MACOMB, IL — The documentary film, “Plain Folk,” by Mark Dial, filmmaker and associate director of Western Illinois University’s University Television will be shown at a free public screening at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication Recital Hall (Simpkins Hall).

Accessible Scuba Diving Teaching and Demo Oct. 13 at WIU With Diveheart
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Jim Elliott loves scuba diving; and since 2001 he has earned a modest living teaching scuba diving in his spare time. The rest of his time is spent running the Diveheart Foundation, the national non-profit organization chartered in Illinois, which he founded in early 2001 and for which he serves as president.

WIU First Tee Begins June 14
MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University’s First Tee program, which not only teaches golf skills, but life skills as well, to youth ages seven through 17, will begin June 14 and run through July 22.

WIU Textbook Rental Program
MACOMB, IL – As a college student on a limited budget, which would you rather do: buy a new textbook for $100, buy a used book for $75, get an e-book for $60 or rent a text for the semester for $45? In an effort to help students curb the cost of textbooks, the Western Illinois University Union Bookstore is launching a textbook rental pilot program in Fall 2010.

SLEJA Faculty to Host Russian Officials; Research Partnership to be Established
MACOMB, IL — Faculty and staff from Western Illinois University and its School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration’s Center for Applied Criminal Justice will host four visitors Friday, May 7 from the Academy of the Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation. According to Vladimir Sergevnin, director of the Center for Applied Criminal Justice in Western’s School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (SLEJA), the SLEJA and the Center for Applied Criminal Justice and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute are establishing a research partnership with the Russian Academy of Public Administration.
